Position Overview

To drive Genfin’s growth beyond its existing online channel — building and owning new acquisition partnerships, developing the affiliate and lead-provider network, and expanding Genfin’s presence in the market through direct relationships, events, and community engagement across South Africa.

Strategic Leadership

  • Own and build relationships with lead providers and manage service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Build and take full accountability for your own pipeline of partners and referral sources — this is a book you build, not one you inherit.

Business Development

  • Drive acquisition of new SME customers and lead generation, owning your pipeline from first contact through to conversion.
  • Acquire and develop new lead-provider partnerships to expand the affiliate network and generate quality SME funding opportunities.
  • Represent Genfin in public forums, networking events, industry gatherings, and community platforms — a genuine, visible presence in the market, not just online.
  • Identify and engage new partners, merchants, networks, banks, or online lending platforms to grow Genfin’s client base.
  • Manage, maintain, and grow new and existing marketing and referral channels.
  • Ensure consistent, high-quality support for all referral and business partners, tracked and managed through disciplined CRM use.
  • Drive new and existing channel development to sustain business growth.
  • Work with lead generation and acquisition agencies to deliver SME customer growth and engagement in line with targets.
  • Maintain a client-centric, relationship-driven approach that reflects Genfin’s human-first funding philosophy.

Financial Management

  • Report regularly against department objectives and the annual calendar.
  • Prepare updates, reports, and presentations as requested.

Market research

  • Provide regular field-based market intelligence — trends, industry needs, and customer preferences — to inform the development of new and existing accounts. Use this insight to propose new channels, directions, or products for Genfin to explore.
  • Monitor competitor activity closely and take appropriate action where relevant, keeping Genfin’s proposition sharp and differentiated.

Sales and Marketing campaigns

  • Identify the right marketing events for your area of responsibility.
  • Evaluate marketing campaigns in partnership with the Marketing department.
  • Track trends and apply insight to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of marketing campaigns.
  • Identify and use measurement and reporting tools to maximise feedback and results from campaigns.
  • Manage Business Development, sales, and marketing campaigns within approved cost, quality, and timeline parameters.

Technical/Business Competence

  • Strong conceptual skills, with the ability to contribute at a strategic level and integrate BD and sales activity with operational priorities, securing buy-in from internal stakeholders.
  • Solid experience in credit and lending, working with SMEs and/or business clients.
  • Confident public speaker, comfortable representing Genfin in forums, on stage, and in one-on-one settings.
  • Strong networker with an established presence in relevant business communities — visible on the road, at events, and in-market.
  • Working knowledge of CRM systems and disciplined pipeline management.
  • Strong commercial orientation and business acumen, with a genuine understanding of the competitive lending landscape.
  • Resilient and target-driven — comfortable operating in a high-decline-rate credit environment without losing momentum.
  • Adaptive within a constantly evolving environment; able to prioritise deliverables against “most value, simplest solution” outcomes.
  • A strong, proactive track record of identifying and initiating sales and marketing opportunities.
  • Background in customer success or relationship-led service environments (e.g. financial services, insurance) is advantageous.
  • Genuinely entrepreneurial — energised by building something from the ground up rather than maintaining an existing book.

Behavioural Competence

  • Entrepreneurial and Commercial Thinking
  • Learning and Researching
  • Persuading and Influencing
  • Presenting and Communicating Information
  • Working with People

Minimum Formal Qualifications and Training

  • NFQ Level: 7
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Communication or similar is preferred.

Minimum Work Experience

  • 3–5+ years in business development and sales, of which at least 3 years in the lending, banking, or broader financial services industries.
  • A proven track record of independently building and owning a client or partner book — not solely managing an inherited portfolio.
  • Valid driver’s licence and own vehicle (essential — this is a road- and event-based role).
