Position Overview

The Intermediate IT Infrastructure Engineer will manage, maintain and improve Genfin’s infrastructure estate, including cloud-hosted virtual servers, VPN connectivity between the office network and cloud provider environment, Windows Server, Windows 11 endpoints, Microsoft 365 services, SQL Server infrastructure dependencies, and vendor-managed email and email-security services.

Infrastructure Operations & Cloud Hosting

Manage and maintain the infrastructure platforms that support the company’s operational and reporting systems:

  • Administer cloud-hosted virtual servers, core services and related infrastructure components
  • Monitor server availability, performance, storage, operating system health and critical services
  • Perform approved server maintenance, patching, service restarts and infrastructure lifecycle activities
  • Support infrastructure capacity planning, resilience improvements and practical service optimisation
  • Maintain accurate records of server roles, dependencies, configurations and support procedures

 

Network, VPN & Connectivity

Support secure connectivity between the office environment, users and the cloud provider estate:

  • Maintain and troubleshoot the VPN link that extends the office network to the cloud environment
  • Support routing, firewall rules, DNS, DHCP, switching, network access and remote connectivity issues
  • Investigate connectivity problems affecting users, servers, business systems and third-party services
  • Maintain network diagrams, firewall rule documentation and connectivity runbooks

 

Microsoft Server, Endpoint & Identity Support

Administer and support the company’s Microsoft-based server, endpoint and identity environment:

  • Support Windows Server, Windows 11, Active Directory, Group Policy and endpoint configuration
  • Manage user accounts, groups, permissions, shared resources and secure onboarding/offboarding tasks
  • Support endpoint provisioning, troubleshooting, patch compliance, device lifecycle and standard builds
  • Maintain appropriate endpoint security controls, including antivirus/EDR, encryption and local administrator control

 

Microsoft 365, Email & Vendor Services

Coordinate and support Microsoft 365, Exchange, licensing and email-security services, including externally managed components:

  • Coordinate with external providers managing Microsoft licensing, Microsoft Exchange and INKY email security
  • Support Microsoft 365 user administration, access requests, distribution lists and shared mailbox requirements
  • Assist with email delivery, phishing, spoofing, spam and suspicious-message investigations
  • Log, track and escalate vendor support tickets through to resolution, especially for business-critical issues

 

SQL Server, Power BI & Business Systems Support

Support business-critical data and reporting platforms from an infrastructure, access and availability perspective:

  • Monitor SQL Server host health, storage, Windows services, backups and scheduled maintenance dependencies
  • Support SQL Server patching coordination, environment availability and infrastructure incidents
  • Support licensing coordination and gateway/connectivity troubleshooting where applicable

 

Security, Backup, Monitoring & Continuity

Contribute to a secure, recoverable and well-monitored technology environment suitable for a fintech business:

  • Apply least-privilege access principles, MFA support, account controls and secure configuration practices
  • Monitor backup jobs, investigate failures, coordinate restore testing and maintain recovery procedures
  • Support infrastructure monitoring, alert response, incident investigation and recurring-issue remediation
  • Assist with audit evidence, security questionnaires, cyber-insurance requests and POPIA-aligned control activities

 

Governance, Documentation & Stakeholder Engagement

Maintain operational discipline and communicate clearly across technical, business and vendor stakeholders:

  • Document infrastructure designs, runbooks, change records, support procedures and escalation paths
  • Participate in change planning, maintenance windows, risk assessments and post-incident reviews
  • Communicate technical matters clearly to non-technical users, Heads, Executives and external providers
  • Recommend practical improvements that reduce risk, improve stability and suit the scale of the business

Essential:

  • Windows Server administration, maintenance, patching and troubleshooting
  • Windows 11 endpoint support, provisioning, configuration and lifecycle management
  • Active Directory, Group Policy, user access management and onboarding/offboarding controls
  • Microsoft 365 administration concepts, including users, groups, licensing coordination and access support
  • VPN, firewall, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing and general network troubleshooting capability
  • Cloud-hosted virtual machine administration and awareness of hosted network/security dependencies
  • Backup monitoring, restore testing, infrastructure monitoring and incident response practices
  • Operational support for SQL Server and Power BI infrastructure dependencies
  • Clear technical documentation, runbook creation and change-control discipline

 

Advantageous:

  • Experience with email-security tools such as INKY, Mimecast, Defender for Office 365 or similar
  • PowerShell scripting for administration, checks, automation and reporting
  • Experience preparing technical evidence for audits, funders, cyber insurance or compliance reviews
  • Relevant Microsoft, networking, cloud, security or ITIL certifications

Minimum Formal Qualifications and Training

  • NFQ Level: 6
  • National Diploma or equivalent qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Network Engineering or a related discipline. Relevant Microsoft, networking or security certifications, together with strong demonstrable practical experience, will be considered.

 

Minimum Work Experience

  • 3 to 5 years’ practical experience in IT infrastructure support, systems administration, network support or a similar technical role, preferably within a fintech, financial services, lending, credit, payments or similarly regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting Microsoft-based business environments is essential, including Windows Server, Windows endpoints, identity/access management, VPN connectivity, user support and vendor-managed infrastructure services.
  • Hands-on experience owning infrastructure operational support, troubleshooting incidents, improving monitoring and documentation, coordinate external providers, and implement sensible infrastructure improvements without over-engineering.
  • Experience working with stakeholders such as the Head of IT and Data, internal business users, external technology partners and managed service providers to ensure the environment remains stable, secure, recoverable, compliant and fit for purpose for a small fintech business.
